They say you mustn’t work too hard
but that you’ve got to make a living,
they say charity begins at home
but you must never be afraid of giving,
they say you’ve got to be thick-skinned
but you have to live with grace,

but you must also turn the other cheek,
they say it’s o.k. to be vulnerable
but you must never show you’re weak,
they say you must know your limits
but you must never give up the chase,

but that there’s plenty of fish in the sea,
they say you’re the master of your universe
but you must respect authority,
they say you have to stay ahead of the pack
but that life is not a race,
